Hoo doggie, how bout them Southern Stereotypes?
If you have not noticed, Reality TV is exploding with Southern Stereotypes and show titles such as “Hillbilly Handfishing, Swamp People, Bayou Billionaires, Rocket City Rednecks, and American Hoggers” just to name a few. These shows feature southerners doing everything from chasing wild hogs to wrestling alligators.
But why the explosion of these shows about the antics of Southerners? According to TV executives, it is because people just want to see regular folks on television. One executive said, the shows are popular because of “the desire to connect with something that is a little raw and a little bit more real.”
Truth be told, there is something a little refreshing about real people just having fun and living life. Besides, we all find ourselves wrestling alligators or chasing wild hogs at some point in our lives, but we are not usually that happy about it.
It is as if those reality stars are living out the verse in the Bible that says, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds” (James 1:2).
So, put a smile on your face today, and go catch you an alligator.
Have a Blessed Day!
