I Know The Plans I Have For You – March 23, 2017
Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
This week, I’d like to provide a little more Biblical insight to some of the most common verses of Scripture we may hear thrown into a conversation or may even see on a coffee cup. Today’s verse is Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Many have taken this verse to mean that God desires to grant you financial and worldly success. I have heard it taught to mean that God only desires for you to be happy, wealthy and comfortable.
Originally, this passage was intended as a promise for the exiles who were under Babylonian rule. For further insight, read Jeremiah 29:10, “This is what the LORD says: “When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill My good promise to bring you back to this place.” Seventy years and then the Lord will fulfill His promise? It’s hard for us to think about waiting one year, much less seventy years for a great promise to come. The point is that while God is good, His promises are consistent with His will, for His glory and in His timing. Absolutely, the Lord desires to prosper His people, but we must be careful that we are not thinking of prospering on our own terms or what we want in life. God desires to use us for the prospering of His kingdom on earth.
Think about it and have a great day!
