There is a principle in life called “unintended consequences.”

Unintended consequences can result in unexpected, surprisingly good results. However, sometimes while you are in the act of doing one thing, something worse occurs unintentionally.

I recently read an article about an Airline company that is now starting to impose a $2 fee on all passengers for “unintended consequences.”

Apparently, the Department of Transportation enacted a law to help protect consumers. However, the intended protection led to additional fees for the consumer. This exemplifies the definition of “unintended consequences.” You try to do one thing and something worse/unintended happens.

In the Book of James, we are warned that our words can have unintended consequences. It says, “…Consider when a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire…and sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire.”

In other words, if we don’t watch what we say, we and those around us can suffer from unintended consequences. So keep your words pure and sweet today and the consequences will be positive for sure!
