Galatians 4:4, But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship.
So far this week, the Advent Devotionals have hit the topics of Christmas bringing peace and being Christmas being a demonstration of God’s love. If you missed those first two inspirational thoughts of the week, you can find them on my daily blog, www.johnmarkcaton.com. However, Christmas not only speaks to peace and God’s demonstration of His love towards us, but it also was the sign of our redemption and adoption as God’s children.
Read these words from Galatians 4:4, “But when the set time had fully come, God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption…” Read those words again. God sent His Son to redeem us. That word, redeem, means to buy back, or pay off fully! If you have ever put something on lay-a-way you know that you don’t own it until you make that final payment. Christ was God’s final payment to pay off the price tag of our sins. That final payment is what leads to our being adopted by God. I really love that word “adopted” because it means to choose for oneself. Did you get that? Regardless of your age, race, social status, or income bracket, God chose you for Himself through Jesus. So, this Christmas remember that in spite of your shortcomings and flaws, God chose you!
Think about that…and have a Merry Christmas!
