Recently, a Philadelphia fireman found a woman on the second floor of a burning building. She desperately needed air, so he took off his mask and relinquished his air supply to her.
The fireman’s mask had positive air pressure, so it blew the smoke away from her face, and she was able to breath as he carried her to safety. However, upon exiting the fire, this brave man collapsed to the ground and had to be taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
Apparently, he was in the ‘hot seat’ as a result of his heroic decision as he was reprimanded for breaking a major fire department rule that does not allow firemen to remove air masks or share air. But, the result was that he saved a life, and he said that if the same situation confronted him in the future, he would react in the same way putting someone else’s life in front of his own.
In our daily journey, we often encounter people who are out-of-breath. Life situations have worn them out! We have options to walk around the need or assist someone in need. Sometimes it is as simple as breathing a little encouragement and support their way, and other times helping someone in need may wear you out.
The Bible Says, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up… Encourage the disheartened and help the weak”(1 Thess. 5:11-14)
So share your air today, and have a Blessed Day!
