Philippians 3:12-14, Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
It is important to set personal goals in order to make sure you become the original masterpiece that God intended and not simply a copy of something or someone else.
It is also important to set goals because goal-setting is a spiritual responsibility. A lot of times we do not think about setting goals as a spiritual endeavor, but it is! In the Bible, God set goals for the earth, history, eternity, and most importantly for YOU! Jesus set goals, for coming to “seek and save those who were lost”.
In Philippians, the Apostle Paul set goals. Philippians 3:12-14: “I know that I am not yet what God wants me to be. I haven’t reached THAT GOAL, but I keep moving toward it to make it mine … I know that I haven’t yet reached MY GOAL, but there’s one thing I always do. Forgetting the past and straining toward what is ahead, I keep my eyes focused on THE GOAL.”
If God had goals and Jesus had goals, and the Apostle Paul had goals, so should we. Goals keep us moving in the right direction even when the path is ‘straining.’ Keep pushing forward, and stay focused.
