Every February the flowers bloom, the skies are clear blue, and the greatest thing imaginable happens… pitchers and catchers report and Spring Training begins! I may have exaggerated on the flowers and the sky, but February is the beginning of my favorite eight months of the sports year. For some ball players, it seems like nothing goes right in Spring Training. They drop fly balls, strike out, ground into a double play, or even get injured. Baseball is such a ‘head’ sport. If a player has a mental block or slump- what goes on in the player’s head is as helpful or hurtful as the daily physical training. The same is true in your daily lives. Sometimes it just feels like you can’t catch a break. Everything seems to go wrong at the same time, and if you are not careful, you can get lost thinking negatively and paralyze potential progress. A person’s attitude not ability often determines the real winners and losers.
So, next time, instead of throwing in the towel, think to yourself, “I did my best. Next time, I will do better, and regardless of the results, I will know that I gave everything I had.” That’s the kind of good thinking we need in every situation. This kind of attitude will bring victory to your life even when you seem to lose.
