Recently, Time Magazine published its list of Top Ten Commencement speeches of all time. Steve Jobs delivered one of the Top 10 speeches to the Stanford University graduates back in 2005.
He said, “No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to Heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be because death is very likely the single best invention of life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true. Your time is limited, so don’t waste it…”
And while those words seem a little dark for graduates, the message is still very true. Life is short… don’t waste it…because death awaits!
However, for the Christian, death is when the real victory comes. The Bible says, “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55-57). Victory is through faith; faith is in Christ; Christ paid the price! Today we often seek victory through success, through relationships, or through finances, and we all know that those can ebb and flow. Put your faith and your future in the solid foundation of Jesus Christ.
Think about it, and have a blessed day!
