The Promise – December 1, 2015

Isaiah 9:6, For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Yesterday’s blog introduced the topic of Advent; the idea of a Christmas adventure comes from the word Advent, which started on last Sunday and will end on Christmas Eve. That word Advent means “to arrive”. Before we can look ahead to Christmas Eve, we need to look back several thousand years, to get our first glimpse of what Christmas is really all about.

Hundreds of years before Christ was ever born, the Prophet Isaiah prepared the hearts of Israel for the coming Messiah by saying, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6). Just as Isaiah prepared the hearts of the children of Israel well in advance for the Child who would be born, I pray that you and your family will prepare your hearts for that child, Jesus, who was born. When your hearts prepare for the real meaning of Christmas, you can’t help but celebrate the meaning of this Advent, which is Jesus, the one and only Son of God who arrived in the flesh.

Think about it, and have a blessed day!
