In 1 John, the Bible simply says, “We love because He first loved us!” In other words, we should love others after we realize the love God has for us. (1 John 4:19)
Recently, at a local coffee shop in Winnipeg, a man decided to purchase the coffee for the stranger behind him in line …that started a chain of coffee purchases that lasted 3 hours.
Yes, 3 hours and 162 coffee purchases later, the streak of good deeds was still going. However, eventually one man opted to not pay for the three coffees ordered by the person behind him, even though the person in front of him had paid for his coffee. After all that time, the chain was broken.
Now that is a great story. One lesson learned from this tale of generosity is ‘one good deed leads to another!’
However, this event can also remind us that too often we act selfishly when it comes to others, even though someone else had been gracious to us.
So as you go through your day today, do not just be a receiver of goodness from others…give some away.
Think about it, and have a blessed day!
