John 5:18, For this reason they tried all the more to kill Him; not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.
At Cottonwood Creek, I’ve been in a teaching series entitled, “The Case For Christ!” As we make our case for Christ on our journey to Easter, the story of Jesus can’t be told apart from acknowledging who Jesus was. The Bible repeatedly and definitively states that Jesus made Himself equal with God. How did He do that? First, Jesus said with His words that He was equal with God. For that reason, the Jews wanted to kill Him. It’s one thing to make such a bold claim, but Jesus backed up that bold claim with actions. Jesus proved He was equal with God by His miraculous birth, by the miracles He performed, by the fact that He forgave sins and that He was resurrected from the dead.
Jesus demonstrated His deity in both His words and His deeds. That’s why the Apostle Paul said in Colossians 2:9, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form…” As you make your journey today, remember the case for Christ was made by Jesus Himself with both His words and His deeds. Our faith in Christ should be the same way, demonstrated in both our words and our deeds!
Take care and have a blessed day
