Kobe Bryant turned his All-Star nose-break into an All-Star charity opportunity. The Laker star suffered a concussion and a broken nose in the All-Star game this year. The injuries led him to wear a protective mask which Kobe did not like because it was “hot and sweaty.” When Bryant was done wearing it, he decided that he would sign it and auction it off for charity. Everyone was stunned when the sweaty mask received 129 bids with a final sale price of nearly seventy thousand dollars.
As shocking as it is to think that a man would pay $70k for a used, sweaty mask, how much more shocking is it that God would pay such a high price for my sin? John the Baptist knew the sacrifice Jesus would make as he uttered the words, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). That is exactly what Jesus did when He died on the cross. He paid the ultimate price for our sins.
