Glory In The Highest – December 9, 2015
Luke 2:13, Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.”
This week, we are continuing our Advent topic of joy. Today’s scripture reminds us the importance of glorifying God. In Luke 2, the angel of the Lord has just told the shepherds that the Savior will be born in the town of David. Then he follows it up with these words in Luke 2:13, “Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom His favor rests.” Think about those words, “…Glory to God in the highest heaven…” This Christmas season your glory should go to God. Glory means-adoring praise or worshipful thanksgiving. Be intentional, and take time to adore our heavenly father this season; focus your worshipful thanksgiving on Him as you hustle about in December. The last part of the verse says, peace on earth to those on whom His favor rests, and we all know by reading today’s headlines that we truly do need peace. True peace comes through Christ; Christ who was born, lived, and died for us; Christ who was announced by angels and quietly welcomed to earth those many years ago. We see the results today of what happens when we glorify man, and we know the effects of chaos and lack of peace that result. So, raise the roof on your praise today; glorify God in the HIGHEST HEAVEN, and let your heart seek peace on earth.
Glory to God,
