There are a number of students in various school districts who are protesting and even boycotting the new school lunch program that seeks to limit calories and curtail an ever growing obesity problem among our nation’s youth.

These new school lunches are part of a plan to serve our kids “leaner, greener and healthier lunches” that includes serving more whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and less sugar and salt. But as with every change, there is opposition to this new concept.  Some athletes are saying the new, restricted-calorie school lunches just do not give them the calories they need to make it through their exhausting practices.

While I am not here to debate the merits of the new nutritional programs in schools, this story does remind me that some things are good for us while others are not:

Solomon, the wisest man who ever lived wrote these words long ago,
“Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”(Prov. 3)

So as you go through your day today, do not forget to do the things that with make you healthy both physically and spiritually.
