My wife and I have been married for a little more than 15 good and happy years. Honestly, there have been a few bumps in the road. We have felt the need for periodic tune-ups; yet, our marriage is stronger now than last year, the year before, or even those first passionate years. Our marriage is stronger and individually we are better. Both her character and mine show greater depth and strength. Why in spite of the challenges or maybe because of the difficulties are we still together and counting this year better than last? What makes a marriage great?

A great marriage requires attention and hard work, but it does not begin there. The instructions in God’s Word have the power to transform any individual and any marriage if they are taken seriously. When I ask myself, “What makes a marriage great?”  I must look no further than two people who are discovering together the secrets of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness and love? It is on these qualities that a great marriage is built. God’s word has the answer to a great marriage. We have to study, ponder, and live it to find that answer.

Open God’s word together today.
