Hi, this is Justin Frazier from Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church with your Inspirational thought of the day.
Have you ever known someone who inserts an improper innuendo into almost every conversation? Or how about someone who possesses that unique talent of focusing on the clouds inside every silver lining?
The reality is that we all know people like that. (And hey – if we’re being completely honest – we might even be that person from time to time!) But the Bible tells us it is really a reflection of the heart. Luke 6:45 says, “A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”
Said another way, our soul is the filter through which we view the world around us. That is why the Bible constantly reminds us of the importance of monitoring what we are feeding our minds & souls – because it determines the way that we think, the way we act and, to a large extent, even our ability to glorify God through our lives.
Consider the following verses:
• “… but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires.” – Romans 8:5
• “… be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2
• “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” – Colossians 3:2
• “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” – Philippians 4:8
Let me encourage you to really try to live out these verses this week by monitoring what you are putting into your heart and mind – and see what God will do in your life.
