FACING GIANTS IN LIFE & WORK – DAY THREE
This week’s blog focus is on overcoming the giants in our lives. We are looking to David’s example as he battles Goliath. Yesterday, we looked at the giant of discouragement and how to overcome it by listening to God and not the giant in front of you. A second ‘Giant’ or ‘dream-buster’ that we might have to overcome is DOUBT.
1 Samuel 17:28, “When Eliab, David’s oldest brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.” 29“Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?”
1 Samuel 17:32,“David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him.” 33Saul replied, “You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”
When David volunteered to fight Goliath, his own brothers disapproved and questioned his motives!
His own brothers belittled him and said. “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is… 1 Samuel 17:28
That same truth applies to our lives as well. Anytime we begin to go after our dreams there will always be those who disapprove. They are our naysayers or our critics, but never let them stand in your way of capturing your dream.
After David’s family disapproved of him, King Saul doubted him and said, …“You are not able to go out against this Philistine and fight him; you are only a young man, and he has been a warrior from his youth.”1 Samuel 17:33
Right there you see the twin giants of disapproval and doubt from others. If we are not careful those giants can keep us from capturing our dreams today. Don’t ever forget. Listen to God not the giants.
Join me tomorrow and I’ll start telling you exactly how to defeat the giants in your life: discouragement, disapproval and doubt.
Think about it and have a blessed day!
