Born Of A Virgin – December 2, 2015
Isaiah 7:14, Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel.
If you missed the first couple of blogs this week, we are studying the word Advent, which is the combination of two Latin words that means “to arrive.” Specifically, Advent begins four Sundays prior to Christmas and ends on Christmas Eve. Yesterday, we looked at the words of the prophet Isaiah, which he wrote hundreds of years before Christ’s birth as he prepared the hearts of Israel for the coming of Jesus. He said, “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given…” (Isaiah 9:6). In chapter 7, Isaiah the prophet was more specific about who the mother of that Child would be, he wrote, “…The virgin will conceive and give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14).
The earthly mother of Jesus would be a virgin which makes Jesus’ birth nothing less than miraculous, in short, a God thing and nothing but a God thing! Since it was a God thing, the Child was to be called Immanuel which means “God with us!” So, Christmas is a “God thing” that ushered in “God’s presence” to our world, and that’s nothing short of a “Great thing!”
Think about it…and have a blessed day!
