Big Decisions, Big Wisdom! – May 12, 2016
James 4:13, Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16As it is, you boast in your arrogant schemes. All such boasting is evil. 17If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.
My current sermon series out of the book of James sparked the topics for this week’s Inspirational Thoughts: “Living In The Moment-All Day, Everyday!”
Today’s Thought: James says to consult God before all major decisions. Notice that I used the word major decisions. Many times people will say no, we need to consult God on every decision. But the truth is, the real world does not work that way. Read James 4:15, “Instead, you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’” He wasn’t talking about whether to eat a hamburger or chicken strips for lunch, or whether you should wear a red or a blue shirt today. No, James was talking about major decisions like changing jobs, moving to a different city, getting married, buying a house. He was saying big decisions require God-sized wisdom, or to put it more simply, big decisions require big wisdom.
If you are facing a major decision in your life, seek wisdom from God. Pray that His will would be clear. Search Scripture for guidance. Seek Godly advice, AND, be willing to make changes if God changes your direction.
Think about that and have a blessed day!
