I just read a story about a small Spanish town that hired a local resident to restore a 102 year-old church painting of Jesus. The original piece of art was titled “Behold the Man” and was a simple picture of Jesus with a crown of thorns on His head.
The restorations is quickly becoming a tourist attraction, but not for the reasons you might think. Apparently, the refurbishment did not turn out so great, and some are calling it the “world’s worst restoration.” The church is now having to invest in restoring the restoration.
I have seen a picture of the restoration, and truthfully it is terrible, even to my untrained, artistic eye. However, the truth behind the title is just as true today as it was 2000 years ago when Jesus walked the earth.
As a matter of fact, when Jesus began his public ministry John the Baptist saw Jesus coming his way and said, “Behold the Man”…well he actually said, “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sins of the world!”(John 1:28,29)
That simple truth is as beautiful today as it was the day it was said.
Have a blessed Day!
