I just read an article about a flock of pigeons in Belgium. Apparently, these pigeons have stopped flying to their favorite feeding places and have started riding the subway.
According to the article, these smart pigeons, “stand calmly at the platform and wait for the subway train to arrive. When it does, they get on, travel one stop, jump off and then head for their favorite hangout.” They are well-behaved while on board, and they do not seem to be making much of a mess. The flock chooses to travel later in the day, cleverly avoiding rush hour.
As I thought about this funny account of these well-behaved fowl making daily journeys, I concluded that the real truth is that pigeons are made to fly and not ride the subway.
I wonder how many of us do the same thing. The Bible says, “…those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”(Is. 40)
Have you stopped soaring and started walking spiritually? Do you try to take short cuts that in fact cut you short of God’s blessings in your life? If so, spread your wings today and take to the skies. Put your hope in the Lord and enjoy the ride.
Have a blessed Day!
