Are You Happy? I mean really happy? A recent Gallup Well-Being Survey revealed that many Americans are “…smiling less and worrying more …happiness is down and sadness is up….” If the Gallup Survey accurately represents Americans these days, then the real question is why?
Responding to the Survey, Daniel Gilbert (A Psychology Professor at Harvard) wrote an article entitled, “What You Don’t Know Makes You Nervous.” Gilbert Observed, that our “real problem is not financial… but something else…that something else is uncertainty.”
Gilbert wrote, “People don’t know what is going to happen…An uncertain future leaves us stranded in an unhappy present with nothing to do but wait …. Our national gloom is real enough, but it isn’t a matter of insufficient funds. It’s a matter of insufficient CERTAINTY.” We are uncertain about everything the future holds.
However, Jesus told His uncertain disciples, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)That is a certainty we can hang our hat on TODAY!!!! Have a Blessed Day!
