Steve Smith, the Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is a receiver who gives instead of receives. He knows he will not play football forever. When he retires, he does not plan to simply retire, relax on a beach, and dabble in a high-profile broadcast job. Relaxing in the life of luxury just is not for him.
Instead, he wants to spend the rest of his life giving back and helping those in need. Smith teamed up with an organization named Samaritan’s Shoes that provides new shoes to homeless people in desperate need.
He currently spends time providing shoes to the homeless in the city that hosts his weekly game; most recently he worked fitting homeless people for shoes in Tampa Bay before playing the Buccaneers… now that is a great example!
That reminds me of Jesus…who as the son of God did not choose the lap of luxury either, but instead, the Bible tells us that on the night in which he was betrayed, he stopped, got down on his knees and washed the disciples feet. (John 13)
So as you make your journey today, do not just think about yourself. Think about what you can do to serve others and make the world a better place.
Have a blessed day and be a blessing today!
