Recently, a young couple named its new daughter “Hashtag.” The truth is you can name your baby anything you want; after all we live in a free country. You can name your baby after a city, a state, a car, a bird, an athlete or a celebrity.

These techno-savvy parents admitted that the love of technology inspired the choice for their new daughter’s name. She will probably grow up to be healthy and happy, but what if “Twitter” goes the way of MySpace…then what? She will have a peculiar name that she will have to explain for the rest of her life.

But two thousand years ago the Angel Gabriel showed up to the Mary and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God. 31 You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.(Luke 1:28-31)

Now that is a name that has lasted over 2000 years, and it is as meaningful today as the day Gabriel first pronounced it! Jesus, the name above all names, the name that needs no explanation, the name that changed eternity forever…Jesus!

Have a blessed day!
