Sergeant First Class Barry Jarvis was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010. His story recently caught my attention for two reasons. First, it reminds each of us to pray daily for those who serve our country so faithfully. Secondly, because he was awarded the Silver Star which is the Army’s 3rd highest award for gallantry in action.

Sergeant Jarvis truly was a hero. When he and his platoon leader came under fire, Jarvis could have taken cover, but instead, he pushed his platoon leader out of the way-saving his leader’s life in an action that ultimately cost him his own.

That is exactly what Jesus did for us. The Bible says,
“…Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps. He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth. When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”(1 Peter 2)

Remember, follow the example of Jesus: entrust yourself to Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Exhibit honesty, forgiveness, and peace.

Don’t forget to be grateful for those who serve our country so faithfully. Pray for them and support their families at home.
Have a Blessed Day!
