I recently read an article about what people gave up for Lent.
For those who don’t know, Lent is the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Holy Saturday where people observe a time of penance and fasting that commemorates Jesus’ fasting while in the Wilderness.
One researcher has been tracking what people gave up the most for Lent. The following made the top 10 List: Twitter, chocolate, swearing, alcohol, soda, Facebook, fast food, sex, sweets, and meat.
In addition, many people chose to give up being mean or being nice. I am not so sure that being nice is something you should give up, but you might have something else in your life that is holding you back.
The Bible tells us to “throw off everything that hinders us and the sin that so easily entangles us. And let us run with endurance the race marked out for us…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith” (Hebrews 12:1-2).
Intrinsically examine your life today and get rid of whatever is holding you back from being all God wants you to be.
