Proverbs 22:7, The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.

Matthew 6:24, …You cannot serve both God and money.

It’s the first week of the New Year, and we are going to continue looking at the wisdom found in the book of Proverbs to help us kick off 2017. We’ve talked about trusting in the Lord, guarding our heart, using our words to bring life and having friends who will sharpen us with truth.

Today, let’s read from Proverbs 22:7, “The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” This proverb is still true today, debt is enslaving. Across the board, managing finances better, can be found on any top New Year’s resolution list. In another passage, Matthew 6:24 says, “You cannot serve both God and money.” Jesus says many other things about how we should use our money, because our checkbook is often an indicator of the state of our heart. Where we spend our money, so our heart is. Are you spending your money wisely? Are you using what God has given you for His purposes or yours?

Think about it and have a happy New Year!
