Honor Your Parents – October 24, 2016
Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”
Proverbs 15:20, “A wise son makes a father glad, but a foolish man despises his mother.”
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been in a teaching series at Cottonwood Creek titled, ‘Relationship Goals God’s Way!’ So far, I have spoken about a number of aspects on great relationships God’s way: love, humility, forgiveness, commitment and the do’s and don’ts of great relationships. If you missed any of those thoughts, you can find them on my daily blog, www.johnmarkcaton.com.
This week I wanted to give you practical biblical advice on the five most important earthly relationships we have in our lives. The first relationship we all have in this world is with our parents. The fifth commandment says in Exodus 20:12, “Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” In that simple commandment, we are told to honor our father and our mother. Notice the result of a great relationship with your parents, that things would go well for you. Here’s the truth, people who have good relationships with their parents just flat out enjoy life more. I know that some situations are out of your controll, but within your capabilities, honor your father and your mother!
Think about that and have a blessed day!
