I recently read another article reiterating that too many Americans are not getting enough sleep. More importantly, research continues to show that too little sleep increases the likelihood of strokes and numerous other potentially life-threatening problems.

When God created us, He fashioned us with a need for rest as essential as our need for food and water. Each of us has an innate, fundamental, yet vital, mandate for both physical and spiritual rest.  Too little spiritual rest is equally detrimental to our body and soul as a lack of physical rest.

That is why the 4th Commandment states, “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. On it you shall not do any work.  For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the seas, and all that is in them, but He rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy” (Exodus 20:9-11).

So as you prioritize your week, do not forget your rest, and as you think about this week do not forget the Sabbath…your body, soul and family need it.

Have a Blessed Day!
