Play Like the Champions You Are! That was his short and simple message. A few weeks ago, before a Monday Night game, the NFL’s New York Giants were preparing to play the Green Bay Packers.
The Giants won the Super Bowl last year but have been struggling to find a rhythm this season. Their first two games of the schedule ended in losses and the team found itself in a “must-win” game against the Green Bay Packers at Lambow Field.
After a hard week of practice and before the Monday night game, the Giants’ Coach brought in Adam Merchant, a 15 year old Giants fan that is battling cancer, to energize the team. Coach Coughlin gave little Adam the floor and the young 15 year-old cancer patient delivered a powerful but simple message to the team. He said, “PLAY LIKE THE WORLD CHAMPIONS YOU ARE!”
And that is exactly what the Giants did as they routed the Packers that night. As I thought about that short message, I was reminded of the powerful Gospel of Jesus Christ found throughout the New Testament that encourages us to live like the champions we are even when we have our doubts, even when we are weary and do not think we can, even when it is challenging! Also notice, the message says, “Play like the champions you are…not the one you want to be!”
After all, it was Paul who said, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31)
Think about it and have a blessed day!
