1 Corinthians 6:12, “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.”
Proverbs 20:1, Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler, And whoever is intoxicated by it is not wise.
Ephesians 5:18, And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit.
At Cottonwood Creek Church, I’ve been presenting a series entitled, “Life Matters More When We Honor God!” This past Sunday, I spoke about honoring God with our physical bodies. In 1 Corinthians 6:12, the Apostle Paul said, “I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.” In other words, it’s ok to eat, but don’t eat too much. It’s ok to drink, but don’t drink too much. It’s ok to sleep, but don’t sleep too much.
To honor God with our bodies, we need to keep things in their proper balance. Billy Graham once said, “… when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost.” Billy Graham was saying that same thing Paul was saying, everything we do must stay in proper balance. If we eat too much, we will lose our health and if we drink too much we will lose our character. As you journey into the weekend, remember Paul’s words, “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything.” In doing so, you will honor God physically.
Think about that and have a safe and blessed weekend!
