No Shame In Tough Times – November 3, 2016

Deuteronomy 31:8, “And the LORD… will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Over at Cottonwood Creek Church it’s ‘No Shame November.’ Today we acknowledge something that everyone has but few people admit to having. Whenever we ask someone how he or she is doing, we will almost always be answered with something positive, like, “I’m doing well” or “Just fine.” However, my great aunt used to answer that question saying, “Well, one foot’s in the grave and another’s on a banana peel.” She was joking.

The truth is, everyone experiences tough times. Most people we encounter are in the middle of something that is hard, straining, tiring and a struggle. It is more a matter of, “How tough is it right now?” So, the first thing to remember in dealing with trials and tough times is that everyone has them, but they just don’t talk about them often. The next thing to remember is that God cares and promises to always be present when His children suffer or struggle. Deuteronomy 31:8 tells us this, “And the Lord…will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.” So, let’s promise ourselves to keep moving forward through tough times and remembering God’s promise of His presence and help.
