Ice Cream For No Reason – June 20, 2016

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Summer is clearly here, and we all seek relief from the heat in the form of something cold and tasty, like an ice cream cone. Here is my suggestion, take your wife, husband, mom, dad, child, other family or friends out for ice cream, for no reason, ‘just because.’ Make sure it’s not a reward for doing something good. Make it a surprise, and tell them it is ‘just because.’ Of course, if ice cream is not their thing, make it froyo, gelato or a snow cone. Just something good and cold. Make it fun, and when they ask why, tell them it’s ‘just because.’

Taking someone for ice cream for no reason is a fun way to demonstrate grace or unmerited favor. Getting something really good when it wasn’t earned and doesn’t have any strings attached, that’s grace. God’s grace is like that; He loves us ‘just because.’ As John 3:16 reminds us, God loves us and sent us a special gift, His only Son, so that we could believe and have eternal life ‘just because.’
