Don’t Be Deceived By Temptation – April 12, 2016

James 1:13, When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone; 14but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. 16Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all He created.

1 Corinthians 10:13, No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.”

In last week’s Inspirational Moments looked at trials that come our way. This week’s topic is temptations we face.  Just like trials, temptations are common to every one of us regardless of our age, education, gender, race or marital status. If you are alive then you are tempted. Part of the problem with temptations is that that we are prone to lie to ourselves about our own weaknesses. The Bible says in James 1:14, “…each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire …16Don’t be deceived…” Did you read those last few words about temptation? “Don’t be deceived.” We are told not to be deceived by temptation for the simple reason we are prone to be deceived.

I believe we are deceived by our temptations in three ways. 1) We think we will not be tempted to sin; 2) We think we can’t sin even if tempted; or 3) We give up and say I can’t resist temptation. All three of those statements are false and all three are equally damaging. Read what the Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 10:13, “No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind…. God is faithful; He will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, He will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.” So, don’t let your temptation deceive you, there is always a way out, IF, and I repeat IF, we take it.

Think about it…and have a blessed day!
