Proverbs 4:23, Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
It’s the first week of the New Year, and we are going to continue looking at the wisdom found in the book of Proverbs to help us kick off 2017. Yesterday, we talked about trusting in the Lord and not depending on our own understanding.
Today, lets read Proverbs 4:23, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” Every river has a source, or a place where it begins. It’s vital that the source of a river is protected, or all the water thereafter will be contaminated. In the same way, our heart is the source for our actions in life. When we stop protecting our heart and we let the sin and brokenness of the world infiltrate it, then our actions will flow from that worldliness. But when we guard our heart as we follow the Lord, the actions that flow out of us honor God and love the people around us. Is your heart a source of Godly actions?
Think about it and have a happy New Year!
