Humility Increases Love For Others – September 29, 2016

Ephesians 4:1, Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

At Cottonwood Creek, I’m in a teaching series titled ‘Relationship Goals God’s Way.’ This week’s focus is on humility in our relationships; humility is the pathway to increased love for others. Years ago, John Wesley said, “Humility and patience are the surest proofs of the increase of love.” Did you get that? The only way to increase your love for others, is to realize you aren’t perfect. When we acknowledge our own shortcomings, it makes us more patient with the shortcomings of others, thus increasing our love for them.

The Bible puts it this way in Luke 4:1, “…walk in… humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another…” Did you get those connections? Humility allows you to be gentle with others, and gentleness allows you to be patient, and being patient with others allows you to tolerate them, which eventually leads to stronger relationships. So remember, genuine humility is the pathway to better relationships.

Think about that and have a blessed day!
