God Expects Perseverance From His Children – September 16, 2016

James 1:12, Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

Sunday at Cottonwood Creek, we reflected on the events that occurred 15 years ago and the 9/11 tragedy. I shared a message titled, “Remembering the Past, Trusting God with the Future!” People are naturally inclined to doubt God and stumble under the weight of severe tragedy. However, the good news of the Gospel shows that God does, and ultimately will, triumph over evil.

This week, I wanted to share five thoughts that will help you remember the past and trust God with your future. If you missed the first four thoughts, you can find them on my daily blog-www.johnmarkcaton.com. A fifth thought is that God expects perseverance from His children. That word perseverance means being steadfast in doing the right thing despite difficulty. As I think back to raising my kids and teaching them to do something new, on many occasions when they couldn’t get it the first time, I had to encourage them to keep trying or keep going. It’s the same way with us. Just because things don’t turn out perfectly the first time we do something, we can’t give up. We have to persevere. Read James 1:12, “Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” Did you get that? We only get the crown when we persevere. So, as you journey through this weekend, don’t give up, don’t quit, don’t throw in the towel, because there is a crown waiting for all those who persevere.

Take care and have a blessed weekend!
