Success & Failure – August 29, 2016
(1 Kings 18:20-40)
The past few weeks at Cottonwood Creek, I have been teaching a series titled, ‘Navigating Life’s Journey God’s Way!’ Last week, we looked at the life lessons we can learn from the prophet Elijah in the Old Testament. One of the reasons why I love the story of Elijah is because the Bible says, Elijah was a man just like us. That means he experienced all the ups and downs just like we do.
Elijah had incredible success that was evident throughout 1 Kings 18 on Mount Carmel where he saw God’s power in amazing ways; however, failure and fear clouded his memory of seeing God work and had him quickly cowering as if he had never experienced God’s power. When we feel close to God or when we feel on the top of the world, we must always remember that success is often times followed by difficulties/ fame can be followed by failure/& fervent faith can be followed by a cowering lack of courage. Be prepared for how you will handle these shifts.
Martin Luther King Jr. said, “All progress is precarious, and the solution to one problem brings us face to face with another problem.” If you have experienced great success, remember this, and be prepared to handle life’s journey with strong faith that does not waver.
Think about that and have a blessed day!
