But God, Pt. 5
May 19, 2019 • John Mark Caton
1 Samuel 18:6, As the troops were coming back, when David was returning from killing the Philistine, the women came out from all the cities of Israel to meet King Saul, singing and dancing with tambourines, with shouts of joy, and with three-stringed instruments. 7 As they danced, the women sang: Saul has killed his thousands, but David his tens of thousands. 8 Saul was furious and resented this song. “They credited tens of thousands to David,” he complained, “but they only credited me with thousands. What more can he have but the kingdom?” 9 So Saul watched David jealously from that day forward.
John 18:17, “You aren’t one of this Man’s disciples too, are you?” she asked Peter. He replied, “I am not.” 18 It was cold, and the servants and officials stood around a fire they had made to keep warm. Peter also was standing with them, warming himself… 25 Meanwhile, Simon Peter was still standing there warming himself. So they asked him, “You aren’t one of His disciples too, are you?” He denied it, saying, “I am not.”… 27 Again Peter denied it, and at that moment a rooster began to crow.
Matthew 26:75, Then Peter remembered the word Jesus had spoken: “Before the rooster crows, you will disown Me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
John 21:15, When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said to Him, “You know that I love You.” “Feed My lambs,” He told him. 16 A second time He asked him, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” … 17 He asked him the third time, “Simon, son of John, do you love Me?” Peter was grieved that He asked him the third time, “Do you love Me?” He said, “Lord, You know everything; You know that I love You.” “Feed My sheep,” Jesus said.
How Do You Embrace Your God-Given Identity?
1 – Remember That You Are Fearfully And Wonderfully Made
Psalm 139:13, For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother’s womb. 14 I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Luke 12:6, Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
2 – Be Honest About Your Own Imperfections And Live With A Genuine Humility
Philippians 2:3, Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Romans 12:3, For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment…
3 – Be A Giver And Not A Taker
Mark 10:45, For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
4 – Confess Your Sins And Accept God’s Forgiveness—Then Forgive Yourself For Your Failures and Mistakes
Romans 3:22, …There is no difference between Jew and Gentile,23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
2 Corinthians 7:9, …For you became sorrowful as God intended and so were not harmed in any way by us. 10 Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.
5 – Choose Your Friends Carefully And Live Life Overflowing With Goodness, Honesty & Integrity Regardless Of The Results
1 Thessalonians 5:11, Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
1 Peter 2:19, For it is commendable if someone bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because they are conscious of God. 20 But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God.
