Pray For Healing – May 18, 2016

James 5:13, Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise. 14Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. 17Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.

1 Thessalonians 5:16, Rejoice always; 17pray without ceasing; 18in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

In our time this week, we have been looking at what James, the brother of Jesus, says about “Elite Level Prayer.” If you missed any of my previous thoughts, you can find them on my daily blog, www.johnmarkcaton.com. Today’s thought on “Elite Level Prayers” from James is… pray for healing. Read James 5:14, “Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them… 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well…”

In those verses we find two keys to “Elite Level Prayer.” First, if you are sick pray about it. Yes, go to the doctor and start treating the problem physically. But don’t forget to pray about it. Secondly, beyond that not only do you need to pray about it, you need others around you praying for whatever is going on in your life. In other words, “Elite Level Prayers” are not isolated prayers. Elite prayers are prayers of individuals that are joined by other praying individuals or, in James’ example, the elders of the church. So if you are sick, pray about it and get others who are spiritual to pray about it as well. Also, if you know someone who is sick, pray for them. I mean, really pray for them. Do not just say you will pray for them, actually pray for them.

Elite prayers impact others.
