1 Peter 2:25, For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.

Have you ever watched sheep? They are not the brightest of animals. They tend to wander through fields with no direction, having no way to defend themselves against predators. Several times throughout scripture, the Bible refers to mankind as sheep, and for a good reason. One example of this is found in 1 Peter 2:25 where it says, “For you were straying like sheep, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.”

Without the guidance and shepherding of God, we are all like wandering sheep. Isaiah says it this way, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” (Isaiah 53:6)

Through the blood of Jesus, we are able to repent of our wandering and return back to the Shepherd of our souls. Without Him, we are directionless in our purpose and defenseless against the enemy. I pray we all look to the Great Shepherd today to be our wisdom, purpose and strength.

Have a blessed day.
