Romans 7:23- “But I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.”

1 John 2:16- “For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.”

Yesterday I gave you step one to renewing your mind: feed on the truth daily!

The next step to renewing your mind is: You must free your mind from destructive thoughts!

I understand that is easier said than done. You might say, “Pastor, I can’t seem to get rid of my destructive thoughts, why?”  The first reason we struggle to rid ourselves of “destructive thoughts” is that they are part of our  old nature. Even the Apostle Paul struggled with this. He wrote, “but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.” Romans 7:23

And, if the Apostle Paul struggled with his old way of thinking, habits, and sin, it should not shock us that we do too. Another reason we struggle to get rid of destructive thoughts is because we live in a society where the values of the world often differ from biblical values. We see worldly values all the time in movies, magazines, and television. We see worldly standards through the idolization of celebrities who have no moral purpose for being roll models; however, people mimic them because of their status of fame.

Scripture says, 1 John 2:16, For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

In other words, destructive thinking is all around us. It is hard to rid our minds of it, but we have to try if God is going to renew our minds.

Think about it, and have a blessed day
