PROVERB OF THE DAY – DAY FIVE
Proverbs 13:3 Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.
James 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell.
Today is Friday the 13th which for many people is a “red flag” day. In our culture, people have come to fear Friday the 13th.
Fearing Friday the 13th has even been given the official scientific name: Paraskeví–triskadekaphobia which is the combination of three words, Friday, thirteen, and fear. It literally means the fear of Friday the 13th.
To be honest with you, I could care less if Friday comes on the 13th or the 31st because I love Fridays! However, it is always good for us to take note of “red flags” in our lives. Proverbs 13 provides us with 25 clear “red flags” that can harm us, but none is more important than the one that has to do our mouths.
The Bible says, “Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin.” Proverbs 13:3
In other words, if we encounter harm on this day it probably has nothing to do with Friday the 13th, but it may have everything to do with what you say. Guard what you say and exercise a little self-control with your tongue. Think before you speak and perhaps this Friday the 13th will be your best day of the week!
Think about it and have a blessed weekend!
