It’s almost Super Bowl “Commercial” time again. Back in 1980 advertisers were shocked to find out that it cost $500,000 to buy time for a 30 second commercial. Today that would buy you about 3 seconds not 30, and the amount keeps increasing.
But, the Bigger Question is… is it worth it? The resounding answer of most companies who can afford the spot is “YES” for two reasons:
First, Viewers don’t change the channel when a commercial break comes on during a Super Bowl. Actually, the data suggests that more viewers actually watch the commercials than they do the game itself.
Second, Super Bowl commercials benefit from all the pre-game and post-game discussions about them….in other words they have “STAYING POWER!”
But when I think about real staying Power, I think about God’s Word. The Bible says,
“As it is written: no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human mind can conceive — the things God has prepared for those who love him” (1 Cor. 2:9).
So as you tune in to those commercials this year and enjoy them…just remember that even the most impressive and creative commercial you will see pales in comparison to God’s play for your life!
Have a blessed day!
