In sports news you probably never heard before, Ken Sparks, head football coach at a division 2 school Carson Newman university in Tennessee, became the 11th man to win 300 football games at the college level. This 2012 feat came after being diagnosed with cancer just a few months before the season. When asked why he decided to coach the 2012 campaign, he simply responded, ” The Lord called me to coach, and He’ll let me know when it’s time not to coach.”
What was it that made the difference for Coach Sparks? Faith. His faith in God produced in him an assurance that would not allow him to be held back from leading ordinary young men to become extraordinary in their academics, athletics, and spiritual lives. His example has set a bar that will inspire others to continue to live life through the darkest of days.
Don’t be held back by life’s hurts and hang ups. Consider Proverbs 3: Trust in The Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make straight your paths. What an encouraging word! Now break out and keep looking up!
