Star Wars – January 5, 2016

Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”

The seventh installment of Star Wars has been released, and its fans are out in Full Force (pun intended). The movie is breaking box office records while receiving positive critical reviews. ESPN even got into the action with a special on the origins of light saber technique. Obviously, light sabers are amazing weapons; we’ve seen them slice through everything, including steel beams and spaceships hulls. Although true Star Wars light sabers aren’t available to us, there is a sharper and more powerful sword that can be in the hands of anyone.

Hebrews 4:12 tells us, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Other scripture tells us that God’s word is useful for teaching, training, and pointing toward righteousness, wisdom, love, and life. A great New Year’s resolution would be to read more of God’s word, the sharpest tool in the shed.
