As a Pastor, I am often asked- How can I get closer to God? This week’s blog focuses on that exact question. Yesterday, we started by looking at what causes us to move away from God. We looked at the passage about the prodigal son where at the beginning of the story, he took his inheritance and walked away.
In Luke 15:13-14, we see the first step in moving back to God.
13-Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14-After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need.
The prodigal son wasted all he had received. He had nothing left. He got desperate and hungry. Then he finally came to his senses.
From these verses we see the first step in getting closer to God is that you have to get fed up with your current life. The prodigal son had taken his blessings from his father and headed off in his own direction. He squandered everything he had and then came to his senses. That phrase, “came to his senses” simply means “he got fed up” with where he was and how he was living. He realized he had messed up and headed back to his father.
Let me ask you, have you gotten fed up with where you are and how you are living? If so, that is the first step to getting closer to God.
Think about it and have a blessed day!
