Political Season is Here – April 22, 2015

1 Peter 2:13, Submit yourselves for the Lord’s sake to every human authority: whether to the emperor, as the supreme authority, 14 or to governors, who are sent by him to punish those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. 15 For it is God’s will that by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish people. 16 Live as free people, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as God’s slaves. 17 Show proper respect to everyone, love the family of believers, fear God, honor the emperor.

The political season is beginning to heat up. How do you describe yourself? Are you a Republican, a Democrat or an Independent? However you describe yourself politically, it pales in comparison to remembering that you are a Christian first.

In regards to our relationship as believers to our government, Apostle Peter says, “Be subject for the Lord’s sake to every human institution… 16 Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 17 Honor everyone….” (1 Peter 2:16 ESV) Honestly, we all find it hard at times to support the government, especially when it does things with which we do not agree, but as Peter says, we need to honor our government and live good lives. In other words, Christians should be model citizens in every way by doing what is right all the time.

However, the one thing we can’t stop doing is preaching, teaching and living out God’s word, no matter the cost!

Think about it, and have a blessed day!
