I recently read an article about the five most searched Bible passages on the web from the last twelve months. Each day this week we will look at one of the five passages.

The 5th most popular verse was Psalm 23
The 4th most popular verse was Romans 8:28

Today’s passage is the third most searched Bible passage from the last twelve months: Philippians 4:13-
13I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

What a great verse! I bet you have heard this scripture or seen it written on signs, shirts, and wall hangings thousands of times in your life. In fact, my son’s baseball team, Texas Spikes, has this verse on the back of their baseball hats.  Most people quote this verse after an incredible victory. However, if you look at the context and the content of the verse, the better translation would be, “I can ENDURE all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

In other words, The Apostle Paul was saying that there are a lot of times in life when we lose, we want to quit, or we want to give up because our strength has left us, but that verse promises the strength to carry on after a great loss or during difficult times. However, there is an important key. We have to tap into the power-source, and that power comes through Jesus Christ.

The verse reminds us that Christ strengthens us; true strength does not come from relationships, from money, from friends, or from material possessions but from the power of Jesus Christ. That same Christ who lived a perfect life yet still found Himself mocked, beaten and nailed to a cross perfectly modeled endurance and strength for each of us.
It is not surprising that this Scripture made the top five verses! If you feel powerless today, do not give up. Look at Christ’s example and gain the strength to carry on.

Take care and have a great day!
