FACING GIANTS IN LIFE & WORK – DAY TWO

1 Samuel 17:8:  Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and are you not the servants of Saul? Choose a man and have him come down to me. 9 If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us.” 10 Then the Philistine said, “This day I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” 11 On hearing the Philistine’s words, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.

As we focus on facing the giants in our lives, this week we will examine the story of David and Goliath. Most of us know the outcome of the story, but we often struggle to apply the lesson to our own lives.

So this week I want to look at David’s battle with Goliath and break down some of his biggest giants or let me call them dream busters.

The first dream buster or giant David had to face was discouragement. Everyone around him was afraid. Goliath, the enemy, had created a climate and culture of fear around the entire Israelite army. Here is what the Bible says that day after day Goliath taunted them saying, …“This day I defy the ranks of Israel! 1 Samuel 17: 10 When Saul and the Israelites heard this, EVERYONE was deeply shaken and paralyzed with fear.” They were discouraged!

Did you get that? Each day Goliath would stand and shout. That is the way it is with the giants in our lives. Often times they are the only voices we hear, and we begin to doubt our own abilities and question our own dreams.

I would like to submit to you that the problem with the Israelite army is that they were listening to the wrong voice. Instead of listening to the voice of the giant, they should have been listening to the voice of God.

That is our first lesson for the day. When the “Giant of Discouragement” starts screaming at you today, stop listening to the giant and start listening to God!  Spend time in prayer; dive into scripture; surround yourself with Christian music and biblical teaching.

Join me tomorrow as we continue to examine how to overcome the giants in your life.

Take care and have a blessed day!
